Dress up
Except for Halloween, I was never a dress-up kind of girl until high
school when you could find me wearing full Adam and the Ants war paint
to class. In college, I was an art major and looked the part (think
Cyndi Lauper meets the Thompson Twins). Well into my 20s and 30s I wore
vintage dresses and suits, and these days you can find me wearing '50s
western shirts and boots.
Yet, having a boy whose idea of dress up is looking like Tiger
Woods, there was no need for a big supply of costumes. But as I write
this, Lucie is wearing two "Blue's Clues" video boxes as leggings over
her pajamas. I love her creativity even though I'm not thrilled that
she's wrecking stuff.
Still I must honor her muse, so I make a mental note to hit the
thrift stores and consignment shops soon for some proper finery --
tiaras, silky princess dresses, brightly colored scarves, funky hats,
crazy sunglasses, and lots of beads. It's fun having a girl.
