Loaded for bear
Getting Lucie ready for preschool is a bit of a trial. It's not having to wake her up early to get her dressed and fed. Nor is it about listening to a litany of whining on how she doesn't want to go. This never happens because Lucie loves preschool. Instead, it's a challenge getting her out the door because she wants half the house to go with her, too.
The other morning we packed three beanie kitties, two blankies, three pairs of sunglasses, and a handful of crayons in her backpack. This is along with the stuff we usually take to school -- her folder, a pencil case, a small bag with her allergy medications, and items we're bringing for the teacher. (This week it was toilet paper rolls.)
By the time we're ready to go, the backpack is almost as big as Lucie. But she doesn't seem to mind, which is a good thing. You see, just before it's time to leave school for the day, the preschoolers don their backpacks and do the Hokey Pokey. The teachers told me they were convinced Lucie was going to tip over.
Upon hearing this she replied, "I have muscles. I'm strong like my dad." That's good to know. Now maybe I can get her to carry some groceries in from the car.
